The Reading Cell Therapy Centre is the new development division of The Reading Orthopaedic Centre. 

It has been specially created to pioneer cell based surgeries in the orthopaedic field and is headed up by Mr Tony Andrade.

The Reading Orthopaedic Centre (ROC) comprises a group of consultant orthopaedic surgeons from the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust working together to provide private services from the Circle Hospital, Reading.

They offer the full range of modern Orthopaedic and sports care including all aspects of arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery and joint replacements, as well as surface replacements.

ROC aims to provide a comprehensive private Orthopaedic service with the benefits of:

  • a single point of referral,
  • short waiting times,

  • purpose built outpatient department,
  • on site Xray, MRI, and ultrasound imaging
  • on site physiotherapy,
  • cutting edge surgical techniques.

The ROC is supported by a modern private hospital which provides excellent facilities including 3 laminar flow operating theatres, a fully staffed 30 bedded ward with a further 20 day care pods, pathology services, and the advice and help of all other represented medical specialities.

The Reading Orthopaedic Centre is committed to care for every patient with understanding and to tailor a treatment plan according to individual needs.

Medical and Orthopaedic Training

Tony Andrade qualified at the London Hospital Medical College in 1990, and was a house officer at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, and Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.

His basic and higher surgical training were in the Wessex region of the South of England, working in hospitals in Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Southampton, Winchester, Basingstoke, Salisbury, Poole and Bournemouth.

He was fellowship trained in hip and knee surgery at Sportsmed-SA in Adelaide, South Australia, and in trauma surgery at the Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, USA.

Tony Andrade was Locum Consultant at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital NHS Trusts from March 2002 until he took up his substantive post at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Trust in Reading in July 2002.

He completed an MSc in Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation technology from the University of Dundee in 2004, with a dissertation on “The tensile properties of the Medial Patellofemoral Ligament”.

Tony Andrade pioneered the use of computer navigation in hip and knee joint replacement surgery in Reading. He lectures at International Meetings on hip arthroscopy and is a regular member of the faculty on Hip Arthroscopy Courses
